The creative writing teacher, the delivery guy, the local Starbucks baristas, his best friend, her roommate, and the squirrel in the park all have one thing in common—they believe that Gabe and Lea should get together. Lea and Gabe are in the same creative writing class. They get the same pop culture references, order the same Chinese food, and hang out in the same places. Unfortunately, Lea is reserved, Gabe has issues, and despite their initial mutual crush, it looks like they are never going to work things out.  But somehow even when nothing is going on, something is happening between them, and everyone can see it. Their creative writing teacher pushes them together. The baristas at Starbucks watch their relationship like a TV show. Their bus driver tells his wife about them. The waitress at the diner automatically seats them together. Even the squirrel who lives on the college green believes in their relationship. Surely Gabe and Lea will figure out that they are meant to be together.... -(Goodreads)

A Little Something Different fits its name perfectly. It really is such a perfectly different love story and I have never read anything quite like it. Obviously, I really did enjoy it, and it had plenty of squeal worthy cute moments.

What makes this so different is it's array of Point of Views. Not once do you see the perspective of Lea and Gabe, who are falling for each other, instead you only here their thoughts through what they say to others. That includes their best friends, as well as onlookers such as baristas, waitresses and professors who form an unlikely team of shippers that could rival any Fangirl. Included is a Squirrel who quite possibly became my favourite character with its love for acorns, and a bench who has a preference for which butts it likes. It's like a real life Lea and Gabe fandom, and it is brilliant!

To make it even more interesting, you get to see two people in love from the perspective of others, which I don't believe I've ever seen done before. However, it's very adorable because you watch Lea and Gabe's outward reactions change over the course of the book, and it's so different to being in the character's mind and feeling everything. Instead you're constantly shown in it, or you find it out through another character's eavesdropping!

Now lets talk about Gabe. I adored him. Yes, I am slightly biased because he was Portuguese and we all know about my call for more nationalities in books, but... he was also so so so sweet! Not to mention he understood the pain of having people think Portugal is in South America or any other wrong place... Nuh huh. He also had some issues to get through, and I loved watching him come to terms with things and finding a path that could help him overcome things and see he hadn't lost everything. It was a great reminder that n matter how small something is, it can still affect a person profoundly, and we can't judge until we actually see through their eyes how it has impacted them.

I spent this book being a hardcore shipper because OMG Gabe and Lea were perfect for each other. Plus, all the other character's shipping tendencies started to rub off on me and IT'S CHRISTMAS AND I'M EASY INFLUENCED BY ANYTHING FLUFFY.

The only thing I would have liked A Little Something Different to improve on is the sense of time. Though we are given a clear indication of the months and seasons, everything just felt so quick. It was a romance that took it's time, but I didn't feel that was reflected in the pace of the book, which was a shame.
A Little Something Different was that adorable, fluffy romance that a hardcore shipper like me needed just in time for Christmas.
