Code by Kathy Reichs & Brendan Reichs

Hello Again!

Code is the latest book in the Virals series and I think that there is going to be a fourth one (Yay!) called Exposure, but it only come out next year.. *Sad Face*
For now, I simply have to enjoy the memories of Virals, Seizure and Code until next year.

Title: Code
Author: Kathy Reichs, Brendan Reichs
Series: Virals #3
Published: March 7th 2013
No. of Pages: 496

The Virals are put to the ultimate test when they find a geocache containing an ornate puzzle box. Shelton decodes the cipher inside, only to find more tantalizing clues left by "The Gamemaster." A second, greater geocache is within reach—if the Virals are up to the challenge.

But the hunt takes a dark turn when Tory locates the other box—a fake bomb, along with a sinister proposal from The Gamemaster. Now, the real game has begun: another bomb is out there—a real one—and the clock is ticking.

4.5 stars: Page agrees this book was wonderful,
                                         apart from a tiny bit.

My Thoughts:

In my opinion this book has been the best so far, simply because of the psychopath that is the Gamemaster. I mean, no mystery book is complete without some sort of psychopath. No, not really, the reason I liked this book so much was because of the danger, mystery and suspense. I can prove it just one word: Sniper.

The old gang is reeling after the events of book one, having now decked out the bunker head to toe with gear, bought with the gold from Anne Bonny's treasure. Well, they're more equipped than ever. Hi has even bought a metal detector and is steadily becoming obsessed with the idea of finding geocaches- a game where you find buried treasure (When I say treasure I mean a magazine or a watch). This is where it all begins.
They find a box that has strange clowns painted on it, and it doesn't open, but it taunts them with clues asking if they want to play "The Game".
If you've already read this series, then you'll know how Tory is. She isn't about to give up, especially when its just a game.
That's what they thought.
After following another clue, they discover that this game is much more dangerous than they thought. A fact that is demonstrated when a bomb goes off, just to demonstrate the consequences. Now that they are caught up in the game, they have to follow the rules and that means not telling anyone or innocents will die. They have no choice but to play.

Now that you know the storyline, lets talk about the Virals:
Tory, Ben, Hi, Shelton and Coop(a dog) are all pack mates, because of special strain of parvovirus. This is what makes them Virals and allows them to have enhanced abilities. Now that they have this power, they have to keep it a secret, or risk becoming science experiments. This was an element of the story that I loved: the uncertainty of whether or not they are going to be discovered was very real, because of two different incidents. Whilst flaring, Tory had flashed her eyes at Madison ,a girl who loves to taunt her, and now Madison has been avoiding her ever since. Then there is Chance, he saw the Virals flare but, for the sake of the pack, Tory had to convince him that it was just a figure of his imagination (he was already in a mental hospital) and she has felt guilty ever since. These events just added to the danger that there was.
Another thing about the Virals, they are all amazingly smart. When they are solving the clues for the game, they have a set period of time, and I'm amazed that they manage to do it so quickly.
However, I do think Tory has no sense of self-preservation since she is willing to look for criminals during a category four hurricane..I rest my case.

One of the best bits of the book was the ending, but not in a bad way, okay?! The ending was amazingly dangerous with so much action and adventure in it. One word: Awesome.
Also, in my review of Virals, I said that there was a lot of betrayal. Forget that. You do not know the meaning of betrayal until you have read the ending to this book. It is what you least expect to happen in the world. It is also heart breaking and you feel as if you have have been betrayed yourself..

By the way, something that I'm hoping for in the next book in Tory + Ben! I think they would be awesome together. So please Kathy/Brendan Reichs, I think everyone would love that to happen!

If you loveI would recommend this book to anyone who loves mystery and adventure, and I'm definitely looking forward to the next book. Now excuse me as I go wait..

Bye!
